Oregon: Governor Signs Marijuana Expungement Measure Into Law

The proposal expands upon prior legislation , enacted in 2015, which sought to make it easier for those with past marijuana convictions to have their records expunged. Petitioners may not be charged a fee for submitting such a request, and any objections to the request must be filed within 30 days. The law takes effect on January 1, 2019.

So, it shouldn’t be a huge surprise that Virginia didn’t launch a medical marijuana program until 2015, nearly two decades after California. Not much happened between 1979 and 2015, aside from preventing the repeal of the wonky 1979 law. The 2015 Virginia law is an affirmative defense law. We need to do more.
