Illinois continues strong cannabis sales for July and August

After not announcing the monthly totals for July, Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation announced today recreational cannabis sales totals for July and August 2024. For the fifth-straight month, Illinois’ sales totaled at least $141 million. July totals reached $143,344,184.07, and August sales totaled reached $147,391,733.03, the third-highest monthly totals since legalization (January 2000).

Minutes ago, the Illinois Supreme Court ruled cannabis aroma alone is insufficient probable cause to search a vehicle. The decision stems from two consolidated cases, People v. Redmond and People v. Molina, in which law enforcement used the smell of cannabis as probable cause to search the individual’s vehicle. Once cannabis was found, both individuals were charged with not storing the found cannabis in an odor-proof container.
