Let’s be honest, medical cannabis is not the most pressing issue in Washington these days. I have experienced firsthand from walking the halls of Congress, that while a majority of members are sympathetic to the needs of patients, most do not understand the issue of medical cannabis much less that there is a way forward.
Earlier this year, the Food & Drug Administration disclosed that it would not regulate non-pharmaceutical CBD products, thereby putting the onus on Congress to devise an appropriate regulatory framework for cannabidiol and other hemp-derived cannabinoids. Solicited by a formal Congressional Request for Information (RFI) on ideas for how to regulate hemp-derived CBD, public feedback included a diverse range of perspectives from businesses, trade associations, and other stakeholders.

The U.S. cannabis industry is still in its infancy, even though states began engaging with legalization in one form or another in the late 1990s. Today, many opportunities exist for individuals and businesses that want to engage in the industry. Some want to directly own licensed businesses, while others prefer to keep the industry at an arm’s length and merely profit from it.
I recently sampled a gram of the Wildfred Root Beer MAC, as part of the sativa flower Illinois High Times Magazine People’s Choice Cannabis Cup kit, picked up from Rise Mundelein. I usually snicker when I see celebrity endorsed cannabis labels. Outside of the rare exceptions, such as Snoop or Willie Nelson, it’s hard to argue that celebrities are bringing a lot to the industry.
When discussing the therapeutic potential of medical cannabis, the conversation often revolves around cannabinoids like THC and CBD. However, another critical class of compounds called terpenes plays a significant role in the overall cannabis experience. These naturally occurring aromatic compounds give cannabis strains their unique scent and flavor profiles, but they also offer a host of therapeutic benefits that can enhance and complement the effects of cannabinoids.

As a cannabis reviewer in the Illinois market, one of the biggest benefits of the Illinois High Times Magazine People’s Choice Cannabis Cup is that the judging kits bring together offerings from several different labels in one place. I’ve been eyeing Nature’s Grace and Wellness’ Twenty Twenty brand for quite a while now and but not able to sampled the flower until after picking up the sativa judging kit, which included the Twenty Twenty’s sole contender for sativa flower, Wonka Bars.

The Veriheal team got a chance to see what the future of group smoke sessions may look like when Denver’s OASIS dispensary invited us out to their Master’s event. Group smoke sessions are as ingrained in cannabis culture as 420, Cheech and Chong movies, and the munchies. These smoke sessions typically take place in not-so-glamourous locations like your friend’s living room, backyard, or —if you’re lucky — their garage.
