I first sampled a strain from Rythms Artist Series last March. R&B artist Tinashe is one of the latest to work with the label, selecting the curated strain Green T. The flowers were dark with an olive-drab base tone further darkened by an ambering trichome layer and the remnants of forest-green and black-sugar leaves.
The buds are absolutely covered in trichomes giving a white tint to the buds. This particular selection by Sunshine Cannabis that I’m reviewing is caked in resinous trichomes, staying true to the claim on their site. Well as you can tell from the pictures above, this strain is gorgeous, and lives up to its namesake.

One of the questions I’ve been asked the most since founding Illinois News Joint is, “What is your favorite strain?” One answer involved having favorite effects ( Work Sativa ) instead of a favorite strain, and the other answer was that I enjoy the most having a variety of strains at my disposal. What’s yours?
Seed & Strain from Columbia Care had been one of those brands that had eluded me, until now. From the Sativa Flower kit, I pulled the 3D strain for my first Seed & Strain review. A close trim job left very little sugar leaf and highlighted a trichome layer that had just begun to show signs of ambering.
Im a sucker for a great strain name. A layer of solidly milky trichomes reached out from beneath hairs, glittering in direct light ,while remnants of lime-green sugar leaf added even more visual contrast. I went for a longer 72-day cut to really give the trichomes time to ripen, hung to dry, trimmed, then cured for 14 days in Mason jars. To find cannabis-friendly events in Illinois, visit here. Drying and curing have always been my weakest skills and definitely a place in the process where this cut could be improved even further.

After a couple years covering the product space in the Illinois market, it’s easy to tell which strains are cultivator’s darlings. Any budtender will tell you that a large percentage of the dispensary consumer base is still chasing high THC strains. That’s why I still get a kick when we get to add a strain to our “Thirty % Plus” review series. Thin and light orange hairs were dried against the surface of the flower and obscured by the dense trichome covering.

I didn’t have a theme in mind besides running my normal “fruit flavored” strains. All four strains in Grow Journal 6.0 A Veteran I’d met through the AFI program knew my preference for lemon, orange, citrus, and diesel strains, so he gifted me a cross of Tangerine Haze x Oregon Lemon Diesel. After that, I just let her go.
While it’s great to develop a list of tried and true strains that work for you, the real adventure of modern cannabis is constantly sampling new genetics that may provide new flavors and experiences.
