House and Senate lawmakers have passed legislation decriminalizing minor marijuana possession offenses. Senate lawmakers also passed separate legislation on Tuesday, SB 1015 , by a unanimous vote. Both the Governor and the Attorney General are on record in favor of decriminalization.
The legislation now moves to the state Senate for further consideration. Passage of this legislation is the first step in repairing some of the harms caused by the War on Drugs. Under current law , marijuana possession offenders may receive up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
